With water conditions being next to prime , all we needed to do is pattern up and find a few good fish for a Presidents Day fishing trip with a couple of old friends , we found the fish , we found them them in some spots they shouldn't have been, but no matter as long as they loved our plugs in the fresh snow water run off , that's good to me, we patterned with some standard Gold type patterns and we threw in some hand painted ones , and they loved them , friends, good baits , good temps and a great little River in the Southern Oregon Wild Rivers Coast , what a place to live in...............................

Well the Steelhead are on the move and in great conditions but the river temps have been a little on the kool side with the snow run off, but that hasn't dampened any spirit's as of late with the water conditions nor the good company , my good friend Don H and his friends , hook em Ray and "I'll bet a haircutt on that " Don. We ended up releasing a few lost a few , and kept 3 real nice Rogue River Winter Steelhead, all mint brite , for some table fare. the weather held for us with only a few sprinkles and no wind, no more than the heater could not dampen, the fish runs haven't yet to slow down on as of yet run with good numbers of hatchery fish showing as well as good numbers of Native Steelhead, come enjoys the Rogue we only seen 4 boats all day and what a great thing for these days , don't forget to change up on your color choices for these steelhead find the right pattern and color and go to work on them , see you on the river ....Boss

The kids from Utah got here a little late , we made it to the river and plugs in the water at 1:45pm but hey thats all it takes somedays , we had some tight slow water , nice day and the heater going , and did some change up on the plugs and went to work on them , we fooled 5 by dark and what fun for some first timers , the first fish almost spooled us , trust me that doesnt happen very often. The Winter Steelhead fishing has been great most days during the last drop of river levels , the Rogue continues to kick out nice hatchery fish stocks as well as healthy native fish . Note to those that don't no it all already, the plug color and presentation is very important as well as your set up , don't oversize the plugs , keep away from standard "cop-car" pattern's and don't forget your leader size , more clear water means visibility so some they say reaction bite only , I'll say scale down , get your good stuff out, rig it well use your head , if the water is 42.5f slow it down , I mean slow that shake down , put out the spin glows on or slow runniing plugs, they just work better in colder water , give us a call we'll get you hooked up , we do need some more rain for the Southern Oregon Rivers and creeks overall ..............good fishing

, for the month of October, the Silvers have been in the system , along with a few Chinook, It's my thought with this rain we will see , the lower river Chinook that are just starting to show now, after the rains for the weekend , we should see a push of fish on the lower river. These fish are bound for the lower river spawning streams and they can provide some of the best action on the Rogue . The Rogue River has been kicking out some nice Chinook, its been a tough bite for most , but the for the average folks, they all have Salmon in the fridge. "Mike the Blues Man Murphy" blows into town , and things are picking up for him , with a good limit of 20 pounder's. The Rogue Bay is getting it share of run-off this year for sure , water levels are at an all time high for the month of August, things should be getting back to a normal flow in a few more days , with water conditions getting back to the normal levels and temps , the bay was full of fish and boom the just took off and they haven't looked back yet you could still see them going through Milk Maid at Agness a mile a minute , we will never see those fish again , but not to worry there are more to come , the bite has everyone stress mode try to fugue out the bite , when the tides right it will happen , other wise , fish the same stuff that you normally use , that's the hot tip of the bay , first starved anchovies are starting to show , and they

We are winding down on the Spring Salmon on the Lower Rogue River, there are still fish moving everday up the river , and some nice one's at that. Well Ive been home a week and fished all but one day , the fishing on the Rogue is as good as it gets the fish that packed into the bay got a blast of water and they moved up the river, they will continue some stopping at the creeks for spawn time. Well folks if you haven't been to the Rogue fishing in the last week and a half, you certainly havent been having as much fun as we have. Some pictures deserve a special place and did we have all the good stuff line up this morning , had a nice 4oz cut in the river, a spinner bait and Susie and Tony, hang on Salmon the fishing kids are here on the Rogue , water temps have fallen this morning to 55.5f just right where we needed them , we got ahead of a nice batch of fish, and that's all it takes, water levels remain low , with no rain and dam work @ Savage Rapids dam, this did not break any spirits this morning , the only thing we couldn't do is catch that Springer larger than Susie's for Tony, what a fun day , after the Sun hit the water is was done and we did see a few fish moving but that's all. Rogue River Spring Chinook fishing has fallen off of late with water conditions dropping into the 3400 cfs marks and temps in the high 50's f , it will make you work that much harder for these super fine Chinook, the drop in water is due to no rain , and also the work being done at Savage Rapids Dam on it's removal at Grant's Pass. We ended up the month of March with a fair amount of late Winter Steelhead in the Rogue system along with a early shot of Rogue River Spring Chinook. Water conditions were favorable for Springer's with water temps looking toward the 48f in march early in the month. We have a good tide push of fish on a daily basis every day at present , the lower river seems to provide the best of opportunity at present before we get new rains to raise the river, continue to check the flows with 5ft to 6ft being height of choice for the lower river. With late storm's and some good run off we should have good spring fishing on the Rogue , every one of these are worth the effort put out ending with great table fare. Michael & Mark, what a pair to draw too, we chased the Chinooks and Silvers from one end of the Bay to the other, we landed some good fish, from one end of it to the other also. Water and Temps are making some of this Falls fishing conditions some of the best yet so far, and by all indications it should just get better. We are seeing some hatchery Chinooks as well as a fair number of Hatchery Silvers, this is just about as fun as it gets in the Fall. Rogue Bay is still kicking out prime Kings in the September waters, the conditions are prime for mid to late September, with river levels and temps being the norm now for this time of year, a good number of fish are moving up the river as is the norm , but the tide bite still continues with Chinook as well as silvers moving daily in the Lower Rogue. Agstar get together on the Coos River

Well it took four boats heavily armed , in pursuit of the Coos Chinook to get these boys from Agstar rolling , what a great group , for two days we switched boats , changed things up , battled some fierce winds , almost got rained on, and we had fog , to so much Sun it felt like Texas, not bad for the Oregon Coast in September. Well all bets off the winner of the derby had a 24 1/2 # Coos River Chinook, good job Russell . We had plenty of fish , but the boats were finding some light bites , and short takes , and some you could not get the Rod out of the rod holder, so it boiled down to 13 guys with 8 fish the first day , and 8 the second for 16 fish, hats off to you guys gentleman all the way what a great organization , and also a wonderful group to fish, we will see these boys again , on another Fishing with the Boss adventure I'm sure, thanks to my boatman Russel McCall, Lynn Hescock and Allen Metcalf, hats off to you and thanks again. Home from Alaska, and back on the Rogue River, we have Summer Steelhead, and we have Chinooks in the Bay , the Salmon have not started there way up the river in numbers , as of this posting , water conditions are 2800 cfs, and holding with temps at or near 70f, great water for the Steelhead , but not good moving water for Salmon, they are stacking in the bay, with better tides on the way after this little cold front with that darn SW wind, look forward seeing you on the Rogue, the fishing will continue to improve through September, we expect good numbers of Silvers but mid September, see you soon

Rogue Spring Salmon continue on the move , up the Rogue to the spawn areas of the upper Rogue , but not before the Lower River Boys get a chance at them , the weather, well has been a typical Spring, with rain, wind, hail, more wind , and then so nice you have to get the glasses out. The Water conditions are improving with the water levels on the rise, and temps up in the 54f range, it makes for a great bite when the fish are on the move . Tina and Jack took home a great fish, on there 2 day fishing trip, hooking this nice fish on the first day , and a Steelhead on the second day, lots of smiles, and they managed to kick down a few Miller Lights on their vacation adventure to the Rogue River on the Southern Oregon Coast. Get a load of this, Hunter with a little help from Dad Steve Floyd "Pink", again hooked a great Spring Run Rogue River Chinook over 30 pounds , this one top the scale at just 31# , it was blowing pretty hard this morning when the fronts were coming in , we burnt and egg and made a few adjustments , he had eighty yards on so fast , we couldn't get the floats in the water fast enough, but everything came together , and we were off to the races, the smile on this Kids face says it all , Dad was pretty darn proud, as I was , well if your in the market for a nice hatchery Chinook the Rogue doesn't have a ton of them , but the quality is definitely there , see you soon , and good luck to Pink and Hunter , what a tough team on the Rogue ....... 1-800-263-4351

Rogue River Spring Chinook are starting into the Rogue with this series of storms , the water temps have reach a passable level, and that's 50f, so get your good stuff out and get ready for the best eating and best fighting fish of the year, we are expecting an average run for the Rogue River, by not having any ocean openers will really make a difference come the last of April and May for the runs of hatchery fish entering the the Rogue system. The Steelhead fishing has slowed down to a crawl with just a few fish being caught, we are seeing downers in all of the river system's. The short rivers of Southern Oregon Coast, are kicking out some of the most healthy Fall fish we seen in years , the meat is so orange they look like Spring fish. Water conditions were prime on Thanksgiving Day , pressure was down and there were enough fish around to keep you in the game , cold starts for a few days with water conditions falling at present we are ready for some more rain. Remember don't get in a hurry on these creeks take your time with the water being a cooler , sometimes it takes awhile to get it right for these big Chinook, the word on the creek is that Salmon is better than Turkey? small plugs with sardine wrap that's the stuff, and put it to-em slow. I'll say one thing , when you have been away from the Rogue for more than a few years , it doesn't take long to bring back all the memories and stories for years gone by , the Arnold's had there hand full most of the time , and after three days the worst thing that happened is I did forget the smoked salmon today. River temps are on the climb and the fish after spending a night or two out of salt water, are not in any hurry to get up the river to Medford, slowly they will move in the morning , and then it might just go dead on you the rest of the day, good luck and keep fishing, everyone of these fish are worth it........

Well it takes awhile before you catch your first Springer on the Rogue , with water conditions in the high 40f it just hasn't hit the 50f mark , they just wont move in till we have a few days of perfect water temps, mother nature just doesn't let it happen. Sad news this morning our good friend Skip Baldwin pass on this morning. Skip was the mentor for alot of the great Guides & fisherman along the Oregon-California Coast, his knit picky ways put him in the Master Guide List as well as any Professional list that you could come up with. Those of us that were close to him knew him as a hard charging Guide with a very aggressive stlye, which made him what he was. We all shared in the good times and the bad times, but one thing for sure that I'll always remember is Skip on the oars in the drift boat saying with a hard voice & a grin "Butt that fish Boss, or I'll butt it for you" I'll miss you good friend and tight lines..........................

We have had a wild couple of day's with Amy & Tim, what a great couple, Tim is a great fly fisherman from Montana, and Amy is his new love. Steelhead fisherman they are both of the same mold, water condition's were not the best of choice, and the temps were not the best of choice, but we did get 12 to the boat in the two days. Long range forcast looks to be bare for any rain with daytime temps warming a little, with the Rogue on the fall, we should be getting the drift boats out soon. It sure was a fitting day for the last day for the Willie sled , the new boat hits the garage on Tuesday, and I'll be heading to Alaska on Wednesday, all in all a tough Spring Salmon season at best , but we fished tough , made the most of the water conditions and even got lucky a few times, we had a prayer fish or two, but bottom line we put them in the box for the clients , I want to thank everyone for a great season, I'm off to Alaska, but I'll be back for the Fall Chinook on the Lower Rogue in August when things are just heating up , good fishing, and tight lines .

My clients from SO had to fish with Russell McCall because of an over bookings and we ended up almost side by side, they caught two Chinook for the weekend to take home with the good water , this was a couple of days to remember, the Rogue has the best eating Spring Chinook in the world.

Everyone was having a great time, the conditions were good , with falling water , temps at 58.3f, and a few layover fish fro the night before on the move thats the touch for the Rogue, we look forward to this group , for the Fall Chinooks or the Spring Salmon they make the most of the short stay , we had a little rain, some clouds, and a few bites , but we did have Salmon in the boat and this one hit the BBQ , come on dowwn the waters fine.

Mary & Tom had a great day on the water , as far as the down river wind, it finally blew itself out about 11:30am , then calmed and then it blew upriver out of the SW, not perfect by no means, but good enough to box one fish for the day , Chrome Bright Rogue Chinook , its all worth it when they are in the box, river temps are good about 58.4f, witch is fine, level is good , and the tides aren't the best for the lower river, with this moon phase its just a mess with the wind, we are on deck till the 21st May , and then off to Alaska for the Summer , good luck & good fishing

Its a tough road to hoe , but we are still putting them into the box, the water conditions and tides are prime now for Spring Chinook on the Rogue , we didn't have any Mack lures Blades , but we did have a few other tricks up the sleeve. Guides along the Rogue are putting in their time at what they do best , there's no good answer , but I have looked up in my past records kept over the years , and have found that is always a push of fish around Mother's Day give or take a few days , with fish showing on the Columbia , and the Umpqua, it could mean our Fish are about ready to commit , we'll if you need a Springer for the table give us a call 1-800-263-4351

And look at the size and shape of these Rogue River Spring Chinook, folks it doesn't get any better than this for the best fight and the best table fair of the spring , conditions are at the peak for the season , with water levels at near perfect level , along with the water temps being almost perfect @53f this morning , all I can say is if you love your anchovies and you forget them , you can always use a spinner. Good luck from down here on the Rogue we wish we had our third fishery on the Columbia fishing at this time, with the Columbia , Umpqua, and the Rogue the only main river Spring Chinook Rivers in the west , when you take one away but let the commercial take its quota first, things don't always add up to me , so we will continue our quest for the Ultimate Spring fish on the Rogue , till the 22nd of May , where we are off to "the Land of the Midnight Sun" Good luck and again good fishing

Rogue Kings are on the move , for you that have fished the last few days in the lower river as well as the upper areas to Agness have seen wind , that will take you off your anchor. Be careful out there , don't take it for granted in winds like this , it could get you into more trouble than you bargain for. The boys from Twin Falls Id. Tougher but we still got them today , the fishing continues to be fair with great average fish being taken, the main bite seems to still in the lower river, no constant pattern for everyday use , spinner's somedays bait the next , its almost a guess to see what will draw the perfect strike every morning , water conditions and temps seem to be stable at present , with tides fish coming on both sides of the tide , good luck and good fishing

Well the fishing continues as planned with a split tide mid -day , the push in the am seemed to not have the fish amounts that we like , through the high a few fish , and the out go wasn't the hottest bite, that's fishing, with water temps and tides at perfect for fish movement , they are just not showing in the numbers that we would like to see, but for a Springer fisherman, that's all part of the game , one day you rip them , for all the good reason , the next day conditions are at prime and it just doesn't happen. Doc drilled a dandy even with the condition tough, I love to see the purple blush on the backs of these fresh fish as always on the Rogue, #6 bear valley brass today, see you on the Rogue , and bring your spinner box, and after fishing , you can stop in at Spinner's Steak and Chops on Hwy101 downtown, and eat one of the best meals on the Southern Oregon Coast, or up the river at the Riverview for the special cold beer, and good eats , will see you on the creek ........... Skip rips into a nice Spring Chinook

Charlie and the boys didn't have a lot of time in between business , but it was time enough to rip into a Rogue Springer, the fish are in the transition between committing to move up the river as normal or Tulle' some of the guides are fishing the lower end of the river at the lower end of the tide and getting fish, I cant say anymore , without handing you the rod , get out of your chair and get with it , chrome on the Rogue.

The Rogue River conditions are continuing to improve day by day. The fishing has picked up in the Lower River , the reason why is Ocean conditions having temps in the 52-54f, these fish do not want to commit they come in with the tides , and some go the rest tulle' back out. The one good thing is that water conditions in the river are at best , with the temps raising as well, a nice grade of fish are entering the systems and numbers will follow, see you soon on the Rogue

Spring Chinook water update

Well the big storm on Saturday , just about blew as hard as it could with rain , more wind , and hail to boot. I for one didn't fish cause I didn't think I could keep the boat in line to fish the way I like , good choice for the Boss as it turned out , my clients were happy , and they'll do it another day. Water flows have jumped to 11,400 CFS this morning at Agness, w/3000 CFS in the other streams , conditions as of this report are 51.2f , with still climbing water , when the fall occurs it will be the bite that the Rogue has been looking for this week , all of the fish that we have boated as of late have had all small bait fish in them , that why we haven't been seeing allot of fish cause I think they been outside on the feed this last storm will change all of that , so to put it in a nut shell , get some days off , load in the rig and head for Gold Beach, to enjoy Spring Chinook when this water turns the other way , see you soon enough say .................

Rogue Spring Chinook , are on the move

The Rogue Chinook are on the move with water temps moving up slowly, water conditions are near perfect , and trends look to be good, I heard a guy caught a fish on a k-16 yesterday , and spot he fished I've never ever seen a fish taken there? Go figure, just when you thought you had the dialed. The bites are still coming slow with the temps at the 48F mark but should improve, hats off to Charlie Pearson, we ripped them again, and that's for the huge box of oranges, get your dates ready for the Rogue River Spring Chinook, your only hours away , from putting one of these baby's in the box...........
